Does anyone know of a place in or around Ann Arbor that sells Lyon's Gold Label Tea in the wee pyramid bags? Last time I struck out and had to order it from Dublin, which is really super expensive and dumb. Does Hiller's or Trader Joe's have it? I don't want to make a special trip out to Ypsi if they don't.
Yes, I'm back on caffeine again. This last month, and the coming month, are a bitch, and autumn is tea season, dammit.
No, I'm not a tea snob. If I could find another tea that had that rich, deep, smokey, full-body that Lyon's has, I'd drink it. But Twining's is like water by comparison, and Tetley's British Blend is only so-so. Ironically, Red Rose comes the closest to that loverly taste.
Anybody had PG Tips? Is it good?
PG Tips is OK, but my personal favo(u)rite--even better than Lyon's Gold Label Tea IMHO--is Typhoo tea, another brand from the Isles. Lyon's is pretty good, though. If I'd known you wanted some, I would have picked it up when we were in England this summer
Well, my Canadian friends use Red Rose.
Have you tried getting Lapsong Souchong? That has a lovely smokey flavor.
I've been doing so much coffee lately that I haven't been doing tea as much. I should get back to it - it's so nice. Now that I have discovered the joys of coffee does not mean I need to forsake my dear old tea!!
Good luck!!
Oh yeah - and (not surprisingly) Zingermans used to have amazing teas.
Thanks for the tips, guys.
I've tried Lapsong, and it's too smokey for me, like most scotch is. Lyons is this wonderful deep dark tea flavor that goes brilliantly well with digestive biscuits and rainy days. We've had a number of rainy days recently, and thankfully, no one around here sells digestive biscuits, or I'd have eaten my way through six packages by now.
Well, I can send you digestive biscuits from Chicago but I haven't looked for Lyon's. I know there's some someplace in this awesome city.
While I must respectfully disagree with your assessment of Twining's (I like their "breakfast" teas as well as their "Grey" variants [Earl and Lady]), have you tried Cost Plus International Warehouse? There is (or used to be) one of those across from the Briarwood Mall and they have all kinds of hard-to-find imports. Next time I'm at the Cost Plus out by me I'll check if they have it.
I agree with Jeff - try Cost Plus World Market. If that doesn't work, I am sure I can ship you some for far less than direct from Europe. We have several tea shops here in Denver.
The Tea Map (http://www.teamap.com/) is a good source to finding tea rooms anywhere and often tea supplies (or at least the tea rooms can reccommend places to get it).
We've tried Ty.phoo, PG Tips, and Lyons. We prefer Lyons ourselves but PG Tips will do in a pinch. Its been long enough that we can't remember how Ty.phoo compares.
Yorkshire Gold is a wonderful tea with a slightly smoke flavor - though we have only ever found it in loose leaf. But still yummmmmmmmm.
And my favorite is a local mix made specifically for the Brown Palace hotel direct from Twinnings. Much fuller in flavor than most Twinnings but very difficult to come by.
Have you tried Twinings Irish Breakfast?
I am a former Red Rosian that now drinks only the Irish Breakfast teas. I like Twinings best, but drink the Trader Joe's version, mostly.
