Dang it, Amazon! I tried (and failed) to cancel the order I placed through them on Saturday, but I did also sign this petition. I'd already started to move over to Powell's for the majority of my online ordering, and until this gets favorably resolved, that's where the rest of my money's going.

There was no change in policy, there was an error by a French employee in cataloging a book, which then got spread to 57000 other books. Mostly gay and lesbian books, but also all other sorts.

Wouldn't it be nice if people just ask if there is something wrong before they start a holy war ?
I think the vehemence of the reaction stems from the fact that people *had* been asking if something was wrong and the party-line response, for several days at least, was along the lines of "No, nothing's wrong -- we're cataloging these materials differently now." There was no public admission of computer error from Amazon until yesterday.
