Wind in the Pipes![]()
This is another painting inspired by my trip to Ireland in 1996.
Truth be known, I had started the painting 4 months before I went, using a photo Jeff had taken during his first trip to Co. Sligo. I was so taken by the place, a 12th century Abbey in the heart of bustling downtown Sligo, that I ran right home and finished it. The title of the piece comes from a song by Meg Davis, a folksinger from Cincinnati:
Welcome to a moon-filled night
of strange and wondrous tales of ancient kings and mystic rings and ships with painted sails... The tune, and its haunting words, are an oft-sung round amongst my friends and I. And, for those of you who think 4 years is too long to spend on a comic, I spent 6 months on this painting alone. Crazy Artists. |
