2008: Clockwork Game
On April Fool's Day, 2008, I started a new weekly webcomic,
Clockwork Game -- a dramatized retelling of the history of the famous Mechanical Turk. I designed the site using no tables, only CSS -- even the image rollovers are CSS! The Content Management System for the comic is Movable Type, which not only updates and archives the pages, but also brings in my
news page from the Vögelein site and provides readers with handy RSS and LiveJournal feeds.
2006-2007: Del Rey Manga
Preview Sites
Del Rey Manga approached Paul and I to create individual skins for each of their previews. Paul designed a total of ten unique pages which I then programmed using a combination of
HTML, JavaScript and Movable Type Blog Software to create a webcomic preview that would update one
page per day, automatically.
2007: Hands-On History
Using
Paul's design, I built Jeff's site using
a combination of SHTML and JavaScript. I also included Lightbox effects similar to the ones used
on this page, built a validating Javascript contact form, and added a WordPress blog to the front
page.
2006: Kalamazoo Friends Meeting
I created this simple site for the Kalamazoo Friends Meeting, using blog
freeware (Nucleus) that allows quick and easy updates by multiple users.
2005: MLA Spring Institute -- Picture This
This site was created for the Michigan Library Association's 2005 Spring Institute Conference. The theme was "Picture This..." and focused on illustrators of all kinds.
Featured speakers included children's popup book illustrator Robert Sabuda and comics creators Jef Mallett, Dave Coverly and me.
Paul did the design work on the site, and I did the programming for it.
2005: Sokora Refugees
A friend of ours, who goes by the pen-name "Segamu", came up with a really amazing Manga story and pitched it to Tokyopop.
When the time came to do some early promotional work, he turned to Paul and I to create him a website.
Again,
Paul did the design, and I did the programming. I got to use my newfound Unix skills -- all the software on the site,
including the blog and the webcomic, were freeware that I found through SourceForge and other sites. I installed and customized them to fit the design.
2004: Ann Arbor Friends Meeting
The Ann Arbor Friends, better known to some as Quakers, needed a new web site. We came to consensus this simple, functional, easy-to-maintain design for them.
They have had many compliments on its clean layout and navigation -- several other meetings have used this site as an example when designing their own website.
2003: Millish
This is a stupendously talented local band. They wanted a very simple layout and design that they
could learn to update by themselves.
2003: Touchstone CoHousing
Touchstone is an Ann Arbor CoHousing group -- kind of like a Condominium association, only the members own the whole subdivision and make group decisions on its maintenance and buildings.
It's an incredibly smart idea, and Touchstone is the third such Intentional Community to be built in Ann Arbor.
Work I did while at Logic Solutions (1998-2001)
Avfuel
I created the HTML and the multi-rollover JavaScript effects on the
homepage, and also did all the graphics on the
AvSomeFun section.
WEMU.org
I did a lot of behind-the-scenes work on this site, including navigation cleanup and contextual changes throughout. I'm
very glad I got to work on this, because WEMU is such a great radio station.
University of Michigan School of Public Health
This site was built primarily using Dreamweaver Templates to allow for fast, across-the-board
updates by each department within the School of Public Health. Elements of my web design
were also incorporated into this site, though the kudos on the final concept design go to Logic's Art Director,
Eric Miller.
Logic Flash Portfolio
Ford Motor Company This small, looping module was created for an internal Ford web site. The images of the speakers were captured
off a video tape. It was intended to fit inside another graphic, so please ignore any objects that may "hang off" the bottom.
Ford Module City of Detroit
These modules were part of a CD-ROM used for employee training at the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage department.
Rack and Grit Chamber demo -- See those little buckets? They really use those.
Solid Waste Removal Truck -- This module was affectionately dubbed "The Poop Truck" by the CoDWaS guys. They got a kick out of running it backwards.
Logic Solutions Tradeshow Commercial Logic needed a humorous, eye-catching Flash commercial for a major tradeshow. We had a lot of fun with this one, and it played constantly in the booth.
